Opposition Alliance Announces Joint Strategy for Upcoming State Elections
In a significant political development, the opposition alliance INDIA bloc held a crucial meeting in Delhi on Tuesday, where leaders from 28 parties chalked out a joint campaign strategy for the upcoming assembly elections in five states. The meeting, hosted by the Congress president, saw participation from key regional players including TMC, DMK, AAP, and RJD.
Seat-Sharing Framework Agreed
Sources close to the discussions revealed that a broad seat-sharing formula has been agreed upon, with the principle of the strongest candidate getting priority in each constituency. A coordination committee comprising senior leaders from each constituent party will finalize seat allocation by next month.
The alliance also announced a common minimum programme focusing on unemployment, inflation, farmers' distress, and social justice. A series of joint rallies across all five poll-bound states will begin next week, with prominent leaders addressing gatherings in rotation.
"We have buried our differences for the larger goal of defending democratic values. The people of India want change, and we will deliver it together," stated a joint declaration released after the meeting.
Political analysts note that the success of this alliance will depend heavily on ground-level coordination, which has been a challenge in past elections. The ruling party, meanwhile, has dismissed the opposition unity as a temporary arrangement driven by electoral compulsions rather than ideological alignment.
